Yesterday all of P6/7 went outside into the school garden to learn a little bit about chemical reactions. We have tried a few experiments like what would happen if you put 2 or 3 mentos into a big coke bottle, or what would happen is you put an alka selter tablet into water, baking soda into vinegar, flour into water, sugar into water, salt into water. We also had a mud sample sent into our classroom to try and figure out were the mud came from, before we did that we had to find a way to dry the soaking mud, the mud has sort of dried now and all we can see is leaves, mud, roots of some other plants. We have now found out where the mud came from, it came from the Wick area. We are also all going to decide who took the Green children today.
Here is a photo of Finn, James and I doing the experiment involving vinegar and baking soda.
Yesterday for Topic we did a chemical reaction. A chemical reaction is when you put something in some sort of liquid and it dissolves. My group did 2 experiments. On one of them we put a tablet in some water and it all fizzed up and went all bubbly. Our second experiment was with vinegar and bicarbonate of soda . We put a tablespoon of bicarb in the plastic cup and then a little bit of vinegar. It did just the same thing as the water and the tablet but the bubbles raised higher up the cup than the bubbles from the tablet. After that we went outside and put some mentos in some diet coke. The menton reacted to the coke and the bubbles from the coke went at least half a metre high. It was fun.
Yesterday we completed Mission 11 and 12 of our topic Kidnapped. So far we have found six suspects. We have also found a watch belonging to one of the Green children, a foot print belonging to one of the Green children and on our final check we found a tyre track, so we went onto a database a found out what car the tyre track had come from, then we found out what cars did the 6 suspects have. At the end of this mission we managed to narrow our suspect list down to 4. Yesterday we were sent a mud sample that was found in the tyre track. We had to work out how we were going to dry the sample to see if there was anything in amongst the earth that could lead us to the place where the children are being held. We then did some Chemical reactions in two groups, our groups involved flour, sugar and salt. Once we had done the reactions in groups we went outside and put about three or four mentoes in a liter full coke bottle. It went up in the air like molten lava, it was amazing and I think I might try it over the Summer Holidays. Here is a picture of me stirring the flour into the water to create a chemical reaction.
Yesterday on 13th of June P6/7 completed Mission 11 and 12 on Kidnapped our topic. Mission 10 was there was soil from where the children were kidnapped. We had to let it dry out first before we could anything. We all came up with different ideas but we did this idea.We used a spoon to put the soil on the paper towel then let it dry for a day.Mission 12 was we did chemical reactions. It was really fun.My group Jamie,Finn,James,Courtney and I did 2 experiments. The boys in our group put a spoonful of carbonate soda and a little bit of vinegar then it bubbles. The girls did a little bit of water then but an alca stltza in the water then it fizzes up.After that we all went out to the garden and did diet coke then put 3 mint mentos in then it explodes. It looked like a mini coke fountain.2 suspects are not suspects any more they are Sophie Lee and Helen Tayler.Today we are going to chose who kidnapped the Green children.I think it is Austan Black and Helen Taylor.
This is the girls chemical reaction the water and alca salsa.
On Wednesday the day we do PE all of Ednam kids done activities .One was called the spider web people had to go through the web with out touching the bits of web .The next activity was fun you had to make a little bridge with out touching the ground. After that we played the blind folding game people had to put blind folds on and the shepherd had to clap or make noises because you werent allowed to speak and you had to get them in a penn .I was one of the shepherds .Thats me clapping in the photo. The other game was the sheet game and all of my team had to fit in the sheet and we kept folding it and we couldnt' fit on the sheet anymore. The last game was all of your team had to balance on one tyre it was quite hard but we done it with out falling off.
On Wednesday 5th of June the whole school had an activity day, There was 8 activites altogether. We did a game where you had to move the gym mat only with your feet it was very tricky to get it up and move with it on your feet. There was another games like electrical wire it was elastic string and you had to get thought the Obstacle Course with out touching the string There was another activity like that, where you had to help your team get through to an elastic web. I enjoyed EVERYTHING!. There was a game which there was a shepherd and there rest where sheep. The sheep where blind folded and there was signals like clapping that you had to make for the sheep , you had to giude them into a pen.
This is Oliver, Harriet and Alex as the sheep.
On Wednesday 5th June we had a whole school P.E session. We went in our houses mine is Thomson and solved some challenges in our teams we were split in to two groups the House Captains were the leaders. The first challenge was we had to get our whole team through a web without touching the wires , it was really hard. Next we had to move a gym mat to one end to the course to the other with just using our feet , it was hard as well. Then we had to put a blind fold on whilst some one guided us to a loop without using there voice , it was really fun.Next we had to get on a blanket to try to get across a course it was hard then we had to get a golf ball across to a bucket only using a pipe but if you had the ball in your pipe you werent allowed to move. Next we had to get across a river using some tyres and planks and then finally we had to get through an Obstacle Course without touching any wires the afternoon was really fun.
This is a picture of me guiding the people in the blind folds.
On Friday 31st May 2013 we went on a residential trip to Robinwood which is in Cumbria near Alston. We done lots of activities there and this is a picture of me and Courtney on the Giant Swing. It was really scary but fun at the same time and in the picture you can see Courtney screaming her head off but it isn't very comfy because your harness is the only thing holding you on so you get marks where the harness has been.
This week we did Topic. Our Topic is Kidnapped and two children have been kidnapped and we are Police Officers and have to find the Kidnapper and get the children back safely. Mr Green the children's father is the owner of Green Technologies [ a company that makes electricity] he has received a ransom letter. Mr Green is trying to build a Wind Farm but quite a lot of people are against is. The ransom letter said if you do not stop the Wind Farm going ahead you will not see you children again. We have 6 suspects first is Derek McDonald he is the Finance Director of Green Technologies. Helen Taylor is the Project Director. Martha Goodwater works for Save The Wildlife Campain. William Baker is the neighbour and says it will spoil his view. Austin Black is the Owner and Chair man of Black Industries [Green Technologies rival]. There was a meeting on the day of the kidnapping and those people where there. Our mission this week was to answer questions about Green Technologies in groups my group was Chloe, Joanna, Cameron and Kyle. This is a picture of me on the computer getting answers.
