About Ednam Primary School

HISTORY OF EDNAM SCHOOL
Ednam School was built in 1911 to serve the village of Ednam, and now includes Stichill. It is situated 2 miles from Kelso on the Duns Road and is a beautiful example of Edwardian architecture. In this small thriving school there are two classrooms, a nursery classroom, a hall which is used for music, drama, assemblies and television, a staffroom/office, HT’s office and kitchen.  A temporary unit adjacent to the main school building provides two further classrooms.  There is a large playground with markings for games, outdoor shelters and stores, and a large field called the Dubby which has a selection of play equipment.  The school also has the use of the Village Hall for P.E.

SCHOOL UNIFORM
Wearing school uniform is encouraged as it helps children identify with the school. It is also necessary when pupils are representing the school at any event.
School colours are royal blue and grey. The pupils wear grey trousers; skirts or pinafores teamed with the practical school sweatshirt in royal blue which displays the school logo. A white or navy polo shirt is worn under the sweatshirt. These items can be purchased through the school. All garments and shoes should be clearly labelled. For the childrens’ own safety, we discourage the wearing of fashion shoes. If pupils are wearing wellingtons or boots to come to school, they should bring indoor shoes with them.

SCHOOL MEALS
A two-course meal is available, with a choice of dishes. The dinner money for the week should be brought on Monday. Children who bring packed lunches sit with the others. If your child is bringing a packed lunch please note the following:
The container should show the child’s name clearly
Drinks should be in unbreakable containers – no glass bottles, please.
Current cost of school meal – £2.10 (Aug 2016) Meals are now ordered online through ParentPay.
Application forms for free school meals are available from the school or DSS.

ENROLMENT ARRANGEMENTS
Any parents wishing to place their child in Ednam School should telephone the Headteacher and arrangements will be made for them to visit the school and enrol the child.
Enrolment for infants normally takes place at the end of November.  Children enrolled for entry after the summer should reach their fifth birthday by 28 February of the following year.  Infants who are due to begin school after the summer are always invited to spend three sessions at the school during the summer term.  There is also a meeting with parents so that any further information can be given, and any queries may be answered.
Enrolment for our Nursery class takes place at the end of February.

NURSERY
The Nursery class is an In-School unit which meets each morning and caters for three and four year old children.  It is currently staffed by a Nursery Teacher on 3 mornings / week and Nursery Nurses.  The children begin at 9.00 a.m. and finish at 11.30 a.m.  There is a 15 minute collection / discussion time each day.  A separate handbook containing all the information is available from the Office.  The Pre-School children must be four by the last day of February.  The Ante Pre-School children (three year olds) are also eligible for a Nursery place and can begin the term after their third birthday.  More information can be obtained from the School Office or Nursery Staff.
