We have recently been learning about the services provided within our local area.  This week we had a focus on transport and the services provided by local businesses and shops.

On Tuesday we caught the number 85 bus from Ednam into Kelso at 10.15 and went to visit Margaret, Madge and Kathy at the Charity Begins at Home shop.  They were extremely kind to us; Margaret told us about what they do with all the donations they receive and what they do with the money that is raised by the shop.  She also told us about why she is involved with the shop and why she chooses to give up her time for free to help out other people.  Margaret also took the children to show them the store room and allowed the children to choose a book each to take home with them.  Madge and Kathy helped the children look around the shop and also told the children why they had chosen to volunteer in the shop.  After our visit we took a short walk around Kelso to see what other services we could spot before we caught the 11.40am bus home again.

Thank you very much to Margaret, Madge and Kathy at Charity Begins at Home, Bruce and Joe from Buskers Bus Service, Lynne Thomson and Mrs Crombie for helping the class have great and real learning experience.
